London sky

I popped to the Museum of London on Saturday to try and see the London Street Photography Exhibition. Anyway, it turns out that there was over an hours wait. So instead I thought I would have a walk around the St Pauls area and take a few snaps myself. I have to say it was pretty uninspiring and other than this street lamp image I had little success.

After my disappointing afternoon I was heading back. The sky in Hackney was amazing. So I captured this from the platform on Hackney Central Station. It doesn't really do the sky justice, but I like the the definition of the cables.

Signs

I have this interest with signs. For some reason I find them great to photograph, especially with a 50 mil camera. Here are a selection from London and New York.

 I found this sign, part of a British institution parked up on Brick Lane one Sunday.

This is one of my friend David's favourites. He collects beer glasses and loved this. Pity he wasn't there on that day. We had been watching Liverpool in the afternoon and if I recall correctly it was one of a very few celebrations under Roy Hodgeson's reign.

These last few are from New York (Hotel Carter off Times Square and the on draft from a NY bar) and the theatre in Madrid. Not sure how I will get on with with the signs in China. Hopefully equally as interesting despite being in Mandarin. We shall see...

Wild Hackney

I have been living in Hackney now for around 6 years. The borough is often perceived as a crowded, noisy, run down, deprived inner city area. However, within this built up urban sprawl there is also an abundance of wildlife and nature. In the past year or so I have tried to capture as many images of the birds and animals, with whom we share our borough with. Here are a few of my favourites.

New York - Williamsburg Bridge

I just spent six days in New York. It was cold and snowy, but on a couple of the days the sun was shining brightly and made it perfect for some landscape photography shots. I was walking over Williamsburg Bridge around four in the afternoon and really wanted to take a picture of the Hudson, whilst facing the sun. Unfortunately, there is square wire mesh up all along the bridge. At the time I thought this was going to spoil any possible image, but now looking at this picture, I think it came out great. Things aren't always as bad as they first seem...

I also wanted to do a bit of panning and catch a yellow cab. After waiting a few minutes in position near a set of traffic lights this NYPD car presented itself instead.

It was my first time in New York and it struck me that it is such a photogenic city. Such tall buildings and straight lines make it easy to come up with some great shots. Often you find yourself in places that remind you of film sets.
